Small Wine Cellar Designs for a Gorgeous Contemporary Home

Conceptualizing small wine cellar designs always start with identifying what the client’s intentions are for building such a unique home feature. Some people believe in investing on the look of a wine cellar, while others prioritize maximizing the storage capacity of their space. But whether you believe in design-over-storage or the opposite, it’s important to consult and work with a wine cellar specialist, so your wine cellar is planned and constructed for longevity, with precision, and according to your taste!

Beautiful Small Wine Cellar Designs for Contemporary Dallas Homes
For a wine-drinking, social couple who recently bought their ‘forever home’, a wine cellar was a must. Our clients loved to entertain. You can see it based on the design of their house alone — large open kitchen with island counter, large living room, a pool, outdoor deck, and more!

This small wine cellar design was shaped for a growing wine collection. Our clients have been exploring wine clubs and new wines to collect and enjoy, and we had the best time creating a design that was both stylish and practical!

As they prepared to settle into their newly built home in a beautiful, peaceful neighborhood, they envisioned a space that was not just a house but a reflection of their lifelong passion for wine. They initially requested their home builder for a dedicated wine cellar, but the contractor was reluctant as they were not wine cellar specialists, leading the homeowners to contact the Wine Cellar Specialists team.

Since construction works for the residence were ongoing, working through the construction schedules was quite a challenge. But with our careful collaboration with the builders, we were all able to lay the groundwork for what would become a stunning addition to this couple’s home.

Strong Foundation for Small Wine Cellar Designs

The chosen space for the wine closet was against a solid wall that also divided the kitchen area. We worked on the wall first and added insulation, alongside the construction of additional walls to make it look seamless with the home’s aesthetic. Our goal was to design a cellar that was not merely a storage space but a centerpiece for entertainment and joy.

Even for small wine cellar designs, you can still insert peek-a-boo windows by customizing them according to the available space!

Since the couple loved to gather friends and family, a wine cellar was an exciting need to complement the home’s open spaces, luxurious kitchen, and outdoor area. Needless to say, the wine cellar was part of the grand plan for creating moments and memories!

A Wine Cellar Design that Breathes with the Home

As the interior design of the house evolved towards a transitional style, so too did the vision for this small wine cellar design. The initial plan was to utilize VintageView’s Metal Helix System for a modern and edgy vibe, but we decided to give way to a more flexible arrangement that catered to both aesthetic appeal and functionality.

The final small wine cellar design featured a sophisticated blend of metal racking for showcasing “entertaining wines” and traditional wood racks for cherished bottles, reflecting the owners’ expanding collection and taste.

It was important to adapt and double the project scope since the owners also had a growing passion for wine collecting, influenced by their exploration in Napa and France. So, instead of a metal helix racking, we integrated the triple-deep racks from VintageView and IronWine Cellar’s wooden bulk bins, creating a space that was both a collector’s dream and an entertainer’s wonderland.

Sophisticated Climate Control System

To actively preserve their prized wine collection, choosing the right cooling system was paramount. Some of the couple’s friends recommended a WhisperKOOL system, which sparked their interest. Still, for practicality and efficiency (considering their space), they agreed to go with a CellarPro wine cellar cooling unit. This choice ensured a stable environment, which is critical for preserving the wines.

Curating this wine closet also involved envisions how the bottles would be displayed.

What surprised us (in a good way!) was that the CellarPro unit we chose was able to achieve optimal temperature fast, despite our inclusion of extensive glasswork for the doors. It usually takes hours or a day to reach a desired wine cellar temperature, but in this case, their climate control system exceeded our expectations!

Elegance and Efficiency Through Expert Glasswork and Lighting

The cellar’s entrance also became a statement piece, with triple-panel doors allowing effortless access to every bottle. This small wine cellar design choice not only enhanced the cellar’s functionality but also its aesthetic appeal. The use of double-insulated glass and a thermal barrier underscored our team’s attention to detail, ensuring that beauty did not compromise the cellar’s core purpose.

Apart from the beautiful glass doors, lighting played a pivotal role in setting the cellar’s ambiance. Multi-color LED lights, complemented by strategic can lighting, highlighted the wines’ labels and the cellar’s design elements, creating an inviting atmosphere that calls guests to check out the collection.

Unparalleled Craftsmanship

At Wine Cellar Specialists, we are dedicated to providing our clients with services anchored on efficiency and expertise. From demolition to installing the cooling unit, drywall, racking, and doors, the project spanned less than a week — a relatively fast feat without sacrificing quality!

Neutral colors give depth to this wine cellar, perfectly complementing the rest of the home’s interiors.

The choice of materials, from the Alderwood racks stained in espresso and finished with lacquer to the insulated glass and climate control solutions, reflected a harmonious blend of form and function. The cellar became not just a storage space but a living, breathing aspect of the home, where every element was designed with our client’s lifestyle in mind.
