How Custom Stainless Steel Wine Cellar Doors Will Benefit Your Space

Wooden doors are a favorite choice of some wine cellar owners because they add a classic and warm appeal to their home or commercial property.  Wrought iron doors are also beautiful. However, nowadays, modern design is in.

At Wine Cellar Specialists, we have built wine rooms that complemented the modern space of our clients. Incorporating custom stainless steel wine cellar doors helps us achieve this. They have clean and slender lines that offer a sense of comfort and weightlessness.

Our Stainless Wine Cellar Doors are Well Insulated to Help Create an Airtight Seal in the Room

Correct wine room insulation is an essential process in wine cellar construction. Not only the walls, ceiling, and flooring must be insulated, but the door as well. Without it, the cool air will escape, and the warm air will enter the cellar. When this happens, there will be extreme temperature fluctuations and varying humidity levels, which can have an adverse effect on your wines.

When the temperature is not within the ideal range (55 to 65 degrees Fahrenheit), your wines can undergo accelerated or slow aging, which can result in an unpleasant flavor and aroma. When the humidity level goes high above the normal range (60 to 70 percent), condensation will form in the walls, ceiling, on the wine racks, corks, and wine labels. Condensation will trigger mold growth and may affect both the wine’s quality and integrity of your wine cellar.

All of our custom stainless steel wine cellar doors are insulated inside the framing, as well as constructed with dual pane tempered glass to help prevent air leakage to and from the room. We also equip our stainless wine cellar doors with weather stripping, which helps to maintain a contained environment.

Weather stripping is applied on all the edges of the entry door. This component plays a crucial role in preventing air leakage.  Our custom stainless steel doors also have a built-in threshold and door sweep to seal the gap at the bottom of the door.

Instead of using a threshold and a sweep, you may opt for an automatic door bottom, which consists of a button that closes the gap at the bottom when the door is closed.

Other Reasons Why Stainless Wine Cellar Doors are Widely Used in Construction

Our custom stainless steel wine cellar doors are considered a practical solution without compromising beauty and quality. They add character to any space, making them a favorite option of builders in modern cities such as Dallas, Chicago, and Tampa. They are all highly energy efficient and have low maintenance, making them very easy to clean. The doors also exhibit high oxidation resistance. This means they will not rust or corrode.

Other advantages of our stainless steel doors are that they will not shrink, warp, rot, or sag like some other materials, ensuring longevity. For added security, they are built with stability and come with built-in deadbolt locks and double vault pins securing it to the frame. Our stainless wine cellar doors are shipped free.

Ways to Care for Stainless Wine Cellar Doors

Regular maintenance of your door will help increase its lifespan. Keep in mind that wine cellar doors made from stainless steel are easy to clean. You do not have to exert too much effort removing fingerprints and sticky areas from the surface.

If you want to maintain the luster and overall appearance of your stainless wine cellar door, experts recommend that you polish it regularly using the right products.

At Wine Cellar Specialists, we suggest that you use a high quality non-abrasive stainless steel cleaner. Stainless steel cleaners contain silicon and oil, which can protect your door from fingerprints and give it shine that lasts. Use a microfiber cloth or paper towel instead of scouring pads.

Stainless Steel Clad vs. All Stainless Steel

Because we specialize in custom stainless steel doors, we are able to customize how you can achieve that sleek, modern stainless steel look. You are able to choose between all stainless steel, stainless steel clad, and a brushed or mirrored finish for either. Both types are filled with urethane.

What is Stainless Steel Clad?

Cladding is the process of using pressure to combine to dissimilar metals: essentially pushing a metal onto another metal. Stainless Steel Clad is stainless steel placed on top of another material or metal–most commonly placed on aluminum for our wine cellar doors. The stainless steel clad is glued onto the other metal (again, usually aluminum) to give the door a stainless steel look.

This option costs less than doing the entire door in stainless steel, and is available in both brushed or a mirrored finish. Because the entire door is made of pieces of stainless steel veneer, you will see seams on the door. As well, if a portion of the door does scratch (whether you have brushed or mirrored finish), you may need to replace the entire veneer to rid it of the scratch.

All Stainless Steel Doors

On the other hand, all stainless steel doors are not pieces of veneer but rather made entirely of stainless steel. This means the door will cost more than one of stainless steel clad, but there will not be any seams on the door. As well, minor scratches can generally be polished out of wine cellar doors made of all stainless steel, unlike stainless steel clad.

Mirrored Finish vs. Brushed Finish

Both stainless steel clad and all stainless steel doors are available in a mirrored or brushed finish. The mirrored finish is a shinier finish for both the clad and all stainless steel doors, but is even shinier on the clad stainless steel veneers than in the all stainless steel. Although the finish is shinier, it does tend to scratch more easily and scratches usually can’t be polished out. The mirrored finish for the all stainless steel is also called a ‘polished’ finish, and some scratches can be polished out. We do insist on being aware that scratches can occur at any point (shipping, installation, after installation, etc.).

For both types, we recommend going with the brushed finish as it is less likely to scratch and when scratches do occur, you are able to polish them out.
