This Breath-taking Modern Residential Wine Cellar Design in Texas Is Spot-On!

With a touch of vintage, this modern residential wine cellar design in a Texas home is truly a work of art!

Your home’s style tells a lot about your character but this couple’s modern residential wine cellar design in Texas alone speaks volumes about their personalities! Their take on classic-contemporary wine room is on-point and would knock visitors off their feet even from the outside.

This breathtaking, residential wine cellar installation in Dallas took just months to build but years to grow. The clients started with just a case of Futures of Chateau Lafite Rothschild in 1983. From a simple purchase developed a passion for wines and the couple began to seriously collect Futures in 2000 until their stock grew to 800 bottles.

For a company of two, 800 bottles became their prized hobby and the pair was not about to give them up. So, to preserve the wines, they installed a few wine refrigerators in their previous house. But when they decided to build their new home, they made sure to have a dedicated space for their wine collection.

With the help of Wine Cellar Specialists, the custom wine room turned out to be a complete success. The design group remained faithful to the couple’s concept while refining the details.

The dual-pane Barolo door is sound- and humidity-proof

The Door: Sturdy, Sound-proof, and Temperature-proof

The standard eight-feet Barolo door sports a dual-pane full glass, which allows you to see through the wine cellar. It’s made of solid wood with interior and exterior case molding. The automatic door bottom and complete weather-stripping help maintain the wine room’s humidity and temperature. This not only protects the wines, but it also creates a warm ambiance.

The door was made in alder with black stain. The black lacquer makes for a smoother, more refined and flawless finish. It also enriches the color, which highlights the classic effect.

The Windows that Say a Lot

Anyone would be proud to have such a wonderful residential wine cellar installation in Dallas. Visitors would be fascinated by it, but certain moments call for discretion. For this project, the couple decided to have an automatic blackout shade inside the cellar.

The proud owners would be happy to give the wine room more exposure (especially when they have visitors) but keeping it in full view on a normal day can be distracting. Hence, the automatic blackout shade. It conveniently opens and closes from inside to conceal the wine cellar. On the other hand, the additional white shade makes it easy to hide the wine room from the outside.

These shades also function as additional insulation as they will keep the heat of the sun from coming into the wine cellar. The couple decided to add them knowing how hot the temperature can get in Dallas especially during the summer season.

White blinds are installed in the window’s exterior to ward off the sunlight, which may affect the wine cellar’s temperature

Wine Racks with Vintage Feel

Aside from the large windows, what gives this normally “traditional wood” residential wine cellar installation in Dallas a contemporary feel is the black modern wine racking and storageUsing alder wood stained with black, the team built a wine racking system that combines diversity with harmony. You would appreciate the vertical, horizontal, and diagonal formations of the wine bottles cradled in wood that is all alder.

Alder wood is the best choice for this wine room because it absorbs stains well. When the black stain was applied to the alder wood used for this wine cellar, it became vivid and accurate. Black also enhanced the structure of the wine cellar, and the racking systems showed distinction despite the similarities.

The horizontal wine racks have the wines displayed label-forward

Horizontal Wine Racks

The horizontal wine racks inside this elegant wine room offer ease. Located on the left side of the wall and above the arch, the horizontal arrangement makes choosing wine convenient since you can see the label right away.

The massive horizontal racking system on the left side of the wine room has 13 layers of the 24-inch deep rack. Each layer can contain 12 bottles of 750 ml wine in two columns or 156 bottles in total.

Vertical Wine Racking for Variety and Wine Cap Display

The wines in the vertical wine racks are displayed cap-forward

This modern residential wine cellar design in Texas does not fail to tickle your interest. Rather than sticking to uniformity, it plays with shades and formation but only minimally, which is the mark of true elegance. So, to add variety, you will find a four-layered vertical wine racks set located on the left side of the room. It covers half of the wall, from ceiling down to the display row so you can see the vastness of the owners’ collection even from the outside. Here, the bottles are displayed cap-forward instead of label-forward to make the wine brands’ emblems visible.

Angled Display Rows for Show and Storage

Anyone would enjoy picking out a wine brand from this wine room’s huge array. Sometimes, you have to look deeper into the vertical displays, and sometimes, you simply browse through the 12-grid display rows where the wines are arranged in a label-forward position.

Case Storage for Easy Wine Storage

Dainty diamond bins and wine case storage

Just below the display row, facing the window is a series of wood wine cases arranged in six grids. Each grid has three layers, which can hold over 400 bottles of wine. From the kitchen, they are an attraction.

Against the surrounding black stained wood, the rustic wine cases offer a different perspective. It enhances the vintage theme presented and makes choosing wines an experience instead of a chore.

Dainty Diamond Bins for Additional Wine Storage

In addition to the vertical and horizontal racks, a diamond bin with a capacity of 62 bottles can be seen on the left side of the room when facing the window. It’s a small inclusion that makes quite an impact, especially with a few wood cases beside it.

Table-top Under the Arch and Magnum Racks on Top

Table top with vintage vases for added decoration

As if the black stained wood and seasoned wine brands are not enough, the owners decided to dedicate a corner for some wine-themed décor. The arched roof provides enough emphasis on the contemporary-classic theme but the additional vintage vases under it complete the statement.

On top of the arch are two columns of four-layered wine racks for magnums displayed horizontally. In total, it can hold 48 bottles.

Top-of-the-line Cooling System to Match a Modern Residential Wine Cellar Design in Texas

Modern Residential Wine Cellar Design in Texas: Window and Cooling Unit Review

The wine cellar requires a reliable cooling system to protect the owners’ vast collection of fine wines, which took them decades to accumulate. And the Texas heat can be mean and unforgiving almost all-year-round. Wine Cellar Specialists’ solution is Wine Guardian’s ducted, self-contained D050 1/2 Ton (1500 Cu. Ft.) water-cooled cooling system.

The D050 has features that are perfect for private wine cellars because it’s flexible, lightweight, and corrosion-resistant. The outer body is made of aluminum with a multi-panel design for easy maintenance. With a 33 x 22 x 14 dimension, it is a high capacity cooling system that can run in ambient temperatures up to 115° F.

This type of cooling unit, which is usually installed in private and commercial wine cellars, is preferred for its quiet operation. Self-contained units such as the D050 can be ducted from a remote location or installed through the wall.

For this wine cellar, the unit was installed up in the attic and is ducted down through the air vents. They picked a color that would match the ceiling’s shade to make it less visible. This gives the surface a clean and flawless finish.
